BIO

Hi, I’m Emily! I earned my BA from Westfield State University and hold a Master’s in Education. I am dually certified as a special education teacher as well as teaching English as a second language.

When not in the classroom, I love to travel, ride my bike, and go to the beach with my family. Hiking, camping, and all outdoor activities are a large part of my life.

Fun fact…I just recently learned how to be a beekeeper! I currently live in Millis, MA.

Sam

Sam, M. Ed.

BIO

I’m Sam! From a young age, I knew I wanted a career working with children. While studying elementary education and political science at Simmons College, I worked as an after-school and substitute teacher. That small bit of teaching experience solidified my love for education.

Soon after, I received my Masters Degree in Elementary Education, also from Simmons College. Since then, I have taught many elementary grades in Massachusetts and Florida, most recently teaching fourth grade in Newton Public Schools for the past seven years.

After stepping away from the classroom to spend more time with my two young girls, I knew I still wanted to teach in some way! Tutoring has given me the opportunity to connect with students, help them in all academic areas and watch their excitement when we learn together. I love creating sessions that fit each individual, using hands-on materials, and incorporating students’ interests into each lesson plan.

In my free time, I love to walk my dogs, go on runs, and do crafts with my two girls. I currently live in Medfield, MA with my husband and my daughters.

In my free time I enjoy reading and going for walks.  I currently live in Norwood, Massachusetts with my family.

Hi. My name is Kerri and I have been teaching third grade for over 25 years in the Norwood Public School System. I hold teaching licenses in the areas of both Elementary Education and Reading. I am passionate about making sure I provide every one of my students with the support and respect they deserve to grow both academically and socially.

Coming from a large family of educators, I’ve learned from the best of the best.  Some of my fondest memories are playing “school” with all my cousins and as a result, I grew a passion for teaching and working with children at a young age. As a “seasoned” teacher, I pride myself in keeping up with new and innovative teaching strategies while having expertise in traditional techniques as well.

I have always loved tutoring, but had to pause when my daughters were at an age that required a lot of my time. Now, as they prepare for their final years at Norwood High and start thinking about college, I decided that it was the perfect time for me to start back up, especially when I heard about Study Buddies. I have loved meeting so many wonderful families through Study Buddies and am excited to continue working with so many incredible students.

When I am not teaching (or doing college visits), I am hanging out with my husband, two daughters and our pup, Charlie. I also love watching my girls play sports and help fundraise for both their teams as well as our community.

Christina

Christina, M.A.T.

BIO

Hi, I’m Christina! I have a BA in English from Holy Cross and a MAT (Masters in the Art of Teaching) from Boston University. I have been teaching English for 20 years – the last twelve have been at Sharon High School. As a tutor, my goal is to help students gain confidence and find their voice within their written responses. I always start by teaching or refreshing students’ awareness of the fundamental skills of close reading and vocabulary acquisition. It is important to recognize that English is more than blindingly writing essays, there are steps to follow that will result in successful communication.

I am fortunate that I truly enjoy my job: it is priceless to witness students’ transformations. Each year they learn how to express themselves and to understand and analyze the deeper meanings hidden in literature. Reading provides everyone with a lifelong means of learning about different perspectives and exploring the world. There are truly endless life lessons to be found within both the oldest book and the most contemporary one.

Diane, M.A.T.

Diane, M.A.T.

BIO

Hi, I’m Diane! I have a BA and an MA in mathematics from Boston College. I also have my certification to teach middle school math. I taught Calculus while I was earning my graduate degree at Boston College, and it was that experience that led me to realize that I had a passion for not only teaching math but also teaching students to really enjoy math. I have over 20 years of experience working in education in many different facets: I have worked as a private tutor on and off for several years, substituted in Ashland for numerous years, and taught both seventh and eighth grade math in Dedham and Sudbury. I am currently a substitute teacher in Natick and in Hopkinton.

My goal is to foster a growth mindset in all of my students and to have my students truly believe that they can be successful in math. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a student’s face light up with confidence after successfully solving a problem and realizing they have the ability to excel in math as long as they have the right mindset and are willing to put forth the right amount of effort.

In my spare time, I love to read, take long walks, and spend time with my family. We love the summer months and spend a lot of time on Cape Cod and in Maine. During our last few summers, we had the pleasure of visiting Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and Yosemite National Park.

I’m married to my husband of 30 years and have three children and a Golden Retriever named Finley. She keeps me on my toes! When I’m not at school, I enjoy hiking, reading and hanging out with my family. We live in Norwood, MA. Fun fact: We live in the house my husband grew up in!

Hi, I’m Jacqueline! I have been teaching high school English in Massachusetts public schools for the past fifteen years. I studied English and Spanish at Boston University and worked at Boston College while completing my Master’s in Secondary Education. Most recently, I earned a second Master’s degree at Simmons University.

As a classroom teacher, I have always loved helping students explore their passions to engage deeply as readers, writers, and thinkers. I favor an inquiry-based, skill-focused approach to teaching, which has also shaped my work as a tutor and as a teacher of English to multilingual learners.

Outside of the classroom, I love spending time with my family and friends, or immersing myself in nature—whether hiking in the woods, swimming in the ocean, or curling up with tea, a good book, and my dog, Rowley.

Joy, M. Ed.

BIO

Hi! I’m Joy. I’ve been teaching second grade in Norwood for the past twenty-three years.  I’ve also taught third grade and have experience in first grade. Prior to teaching, I worked at a behavioral home and school, in both their residence and school programs, supporting students with severe social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.

I have my undergraduate degree in psychology from Stonehill College and my teaching certification from Framingham State University.  Upon entering the teaching field, I realized I had a true love for reading and writing so shortly after I received my Masters in Language and Literacy from Framingham State University.

I am passionate about education and the importance of providing students opportunities to grow, shine, and achieve their greatest potential. I believe in creating a safe and caring learning atmosphere, while providing students tools that will help them develop their skills and help build a positive mindset and belief in themselves. I feel that when a child has someone who believes in them and helps them believe in themselves, they can accomplish so many things.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll usually find me either in a hockey rink or at school performances.  I also love taking walks, reading, and going to concerts. I live in Wrentham with my husband, two teenage children, our dog Yogi and cat Lola. I’m so excited to be a part of the Study Buddies family!

I have been involved with Study Buddies for the past few years as a kids’ yoga instructor, and I am excited to expand my role by working with students and families as a tutor. My goal is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment that builds confidence and fosters a love for reading.

Hi, my name is Matt, and I’m a Special Education teacher at a local public high school. I’ve been working in education since 2019. I earned my bachelor’s degree in History and Secondary Education from Stonehill College. I later completed my master’s degree in Moderate Special Needs at Bridgewater State University.

Teaching has always been my passion. I truly enjoy helping students reach their full potential and love seeing their growth throughout the school year. Each summer, I continue working with students through Extended School Year programs, which allows me to stay connected and support their ongoing progress.

Outside of teaching, I love spending time outdoors skiing and biking, depending on the season. I also enjoy baking, reading, and gaming in my free time!

Allison

Allison, M. Ed.

BIO

I’m Allison, and I’ve been working in education for over 15 years. While I’m currently a high school math teacher, I’ve spent time as both a special education teacher and school administrator. I was a history major in college and am open with students that math did not come easily to me growing up. I worked hard to become ‘good’ at it, and I express to my students that the same can happen for them.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Stonehill College. I then earned a Master of Science in Special Education from Simmons College. I rounded out my education with a CAGS from UMass Boston in Educational Administration. I currently live in Easton with my family, including my two kids. In my free time I enjoy reading and running.

Hello! My name is Lindsey and I am entering my 23rd year as a teacher in the Norwood Public Schools. Most of my experience has been spent at the elementary level, but I’m excited to now be joining the 5th grade team at the newly built Coakley Middle School as a writing teacher.

I went to The University of Massachusetts, Amherst and received my undergrad in Communications. I then went on to receive my Masters Degree in Elementary Education at Cambridge College. I’m excited to take on the next challenge of my career while embracing my many years of experience teaching the littles how to read. It was that passion that also led me to pursue a Reading Specialist certification.

Tutoring has always been a unique opportunity to provide a student with instruction that is catered to their individual needs in the classroom. I look forward to meeting all of my Study “Buddies” and providing them with a fun and engaging environment where we can grow and learn together.

I’m married with 2 children- a 16 year old daughter and a 13 year old son. I also have a Golden Doodle named Lucy who is spoiled rotten and doesn’t leave my side! I grew up in Norwood and now live in Canton. When I’m not teaching you will find me at a field hockey field, soccer field, or basketball court. In the summer I enjoy spending time at the beach, on an island in Maine, or down in Cape Cod!

Meg

Meg, M.A.T.

BIO

Hi! I am Meg, and I am excited to be a tutor at Study Buddies! I have been teaching fifth grade in Norwood for the past 23 years. I have loved every second of it! I spent all of my time at an elementary school, but now I am teaching fifth grade at the brand new Coakley Middle School. I am excited to go to school each day to do what I love!

I completed my undergraduate degree from Curry College where I majored in English and Elementary Education. From there, I went on to receive my Masters in the Art of Teaching from Emmanuel College.

Working with individual students allows me to foster their love of learning while making our time meaningful and fun.

My family keeps me busy and happy. I live in Walpole with my husband, our two children and the sweetest Golden Retriever, Bauer. My daughter is 17, and my son is 15. I love watching them play their sports, whether at a field hockey field, hockey rink, or baseball field. As a family, we love to vacation at the beach.

Maggie

Maggie, M. Ed.

BIO

Hi! My name is Maggie! I have over ten years of experience teaching middle school math. I currently teach 6th grade math, and in previous years I’ve taught various math courses through Algebra 1. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education.

I’ve had a passion for math since I was a young girl practicing my multiplication facts, and that love naturally grew into helping others enjoy the subject, as well. One of my favorite moments in the classroom is seeing students reach that “aha” moment when everything clicks or helping them connect math to their own interests in a way that makes the subject more meaningful.

I truly enjoy tutoring because it allows me to meet my students where they are and provide personalized support to help them grow. Building math confidence is so important as it leads to a deeper understanding of the material and a more positive attitude toward learning.

When I’m not tutoring, you can find me spending time with family and friends, taking a pilates class, or curled up with a good book. And if I could, I’d spend every day at the beach down the Cape!

Skylar

Skylar, B.A.

BIO

Hi, I’m Skylar! You can find me in a third-grade classroom at Eliot Elementary School in Needham, where I love helping my students grow and discover new things every day.

I am currently in the final stretch of earning my master’s degree in Elementary Education at Boston College, following my undergraduate studies at Fairfield University.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to support students across grades K–5. One of my favorite experiences was designing and teaching an after-school nature class for students in grades K–3. It was incredibly rewarding to create a curriculum that sparked excitement about changing weather and the beautiful natural environment we have here in Massachusetts.

When I’m not in the classroom or completing my graduate studies, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors. Whether hiking, working out, or catching up on a good book, I always try to make the most of my free time. I truly love being a part of this community!

Fulfilling A Passion…Doing What I Love

Hi, I’m Lisa Phillips, founder and owner of Study Buddies LLC. Education has been my world for the past 17 years. I’m a former elementary school teacher, turned full-time mom and private tutor. Nothing fills my cup more than helping kids reach those “aha” moments and seeing that lightbulb go off in their incredible, little brains.

I’m a proud boy mom to three fabulous kiddos- ages 8, 5 & 2, and my amazingly supportive husband is my best friend. We’ve lived in Norwood, MA for over a decade, along with our pup – our first baby, of course! In my spare time you can find me at the athletic fields (cheering on my boys) or planning our next family excursion.

I feel so fortunate to be doing what I love…every single day! Running an educational company while raising my boys is a dream come true. I know I have the best of both worlds.

Thanks for stopping by – I look forward to welcoming you and your child to the Study Buddies family!
